Pharmacy Changes Effective 10/1
The latest BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Pharmacy Management bulletin is now available. Most of the prescription drug changes take effect on Oct. 1, 2016.
This update reflects BlueCross efforts to respond to employer groups that are concerned about escalating drug costs. We are moving additional drugs to our excluded list — primarily drugs marketed by certain manufacturers that buy the rights to older, cheaper medications, then raise the prices dramatically. We expect minimal Impact on members, since all of the excluded drugs have comparable alternatives on our drug formulary.
Noteworthy to some members: The brand-name version of Nasonex, a nasal steroid spray, has moved to non-preferred status, and as of Oct. 1, 2016, it will require prior authorization. This is because a generic version of the drug is now available.
